Good Morning From Summitville, IN

Well it is Monday morning, the 27th. I've been instructed to finish this phlog off with a "safe and sound" message. Obviously I am. Our flight home was lloooong, it seemed, with an 11 hour flight to "Hotlanta" and a four hour layover there waiting to get home to Indianapolis. Although we were saddened in this first weekend home by the passing of loved ones belong to two families in the church in Anderson, it was still great to be home. Teaching, preaching, and a Sunday night singing made it a great weekend to be home with my wife and back with the brethren here.

This will end this years trip report. As I mentioned earlier hard copy reports will be forthcoming in the coming weeks to those who had fellowship with us in this trip. My thanks and God's blessings be on each one for without your participation these efforts would absolutely not be possible. My thanks also to the elders and bethren of the Anderson church who not only allow me to particpate in these efforts but encourage me to do so. Thanks to my traveling partner and son, Forrest, whose help this time was invaluable. Although both our "preaching" time was limited to just two Sundays, he was eager for all our studies and showed a knack for ansering questions off the cuff and stepping into the discussion at the right time that just plain surprised me. You did great, son. Thanks to Sarah for her work. I had warned her that churches might not see the importance of what she was doing so as to support her financially in documenting this trip with photography and video. She raised her own support however from friends and family and was always serious about what she was doing. I'm sure that her efforts will help to clarify and encourage this type of work in the future even more so than just a preacher's report will do.

As shut this thing down, in the coming months will will still be trying...
1. raise some funds to replace Alex's laptop that bit the dust,
2. encourage workers who may be interested to investigate St Petersburg.

For the last item will can provide you with email addresses so that you can contact those individuals and converse directly with them. btw, you can also follow up emails with phone calls direct, if you wish. They are able to buy phone cards in Russia that allow them to call you direct, for pennies (or roubles, if you will).

If there are any questions or you would like further information, please feel free to contact me at mcmurray@SpiritBuilding.com

Good Evening from Moscow,

It is 10 pm and we just got in from saying good bye to my brother and his wife and son. Had dinner and our annual visit. Spent the afternoon before that with Alex and Natasha. They had invited us to a "tea party" to have lunch, say good bye, and allow Sarah one more interview with both of the together. It was a pleasant lunch that turned into a Bible study as we worked together on a chart that Alex has been building about WHAT HAPPENS AFTER DEATH. That pleasant lunch and study eventually turned to sad good byes as we said our farewells for another year. More than ever I am convinced that this man and woman are doing a difficult work here in this, their home land. Alex studies and prepares his lessons. He advertises an English club so that he can make friends and prospects to invite to services, and he advertises Bible readings in English so that he can make contact with those interested in the Bible. Natasha tries so hard to be the perfect "preacher's wife." She takes that responsiblity seriously and will tell you that it is her job to encourage Alex.It is not common for Russians to shake hands right off, especially not the women. They have learned that habit from some extent from the Americans, so it is touching to see both Alex and shy Natasha shaking hands with every visitor to worship, both coming and going. They are really trying hard. With the completion of this trip the church at Brooksville, Fl is stepping in and picking up the last half of Alex's support. It has been a year in coming and he has incurred some debts, but this will put the Sereogin family on full support. My personal thanks to the Brooksville congregation, and all the individuals and churches that are helping this couple.

I haven't said much about the visit to St Petersburg but since this will probably be my last post to this blog (we fly out in the morning) I feel I should say something. It was a mixed visit. On the one hand, visiting the city with the one of the boys each day and spending time was pleasant and encouraging. So were the studies each evening that we were there, for two or three hours at a sitting.

Our encouragment was marred somewhat by having to deal with a couple of problems. The first was when we arrived and found that a report from a sister in Moscow had been misunderstood by the church in Nizhny. They were under the impression that the church in Moscow, associated with Alex and Natasha Sereogin, were only meeting "when Americans came" so they resented being included in the same reports from last years visit as that unfaithful church. Happily that problem was resolved, as we reported earlier, when it was discovered that the good sister was actually talking about another congregation whose preacher is also named Alex. That OTHER Moscow congregation has indeed been meeting haphazardly for at least a year and reportedly is not interested in doing any better. We feel the same way that the Nizhny congregation does, they are not serving God faithfully at this point and to my knowledge they have no fellowship with sound churches in Russia. We were glad to have at the truth of that rumor and we hope it is settled. The church Alex and Natasha host meets EVERY Lord's day, every Saturday for Bible class, and twice on the Lord's day in the winter.

We thought we were done with problems when another issue was brought to our attention in the last hours of our stay, on Sunday, before worship. It appears that information in last years reports had caused some difficulties for Tom, the boys brother in Nizhny. He had been accused by a friend of being a businessman instead of a preacher. That certainly had not been our intention last year as we reported on the needs that we had been informed of and tried to make other Christians aware of those needs so help could be raised. We had been told that help was wished for, so we tried to sound out the need. I understand that some small help was forthcoming, but that didn't erase the problem for Tom. Also tied to this, the boys thought that personal information of theirs had been wrongfully reported. Again, that certainly was not our intention. We had simply been trying to make others aware that these brethren wished for some help in doing kingdom work. They were looking for laborers to help them. I immediately asked them to forgive me for the error. I contacted my web support and had the reports from last year immediately pulled from the site until they can be edited. And I assured them that I would also contact their brother and seek his forgiveness also. Although several reports were written the website was mine, and the responsibility is also mine.

The end result is that both young men requested that the tapes of our studies in St Pete and vists together be destroyed. They wanted to change their permission from the beginning of our visit so that their names, pictures, or any info about them would not be used. They are still interested in someone helping them in the work there, but if anyone is interested I will pass on only their email addresses to you and you may contact them for yourself. Of course this request of theirs led to a small problem. The tapes with their pictures on them also contained tapes of Forrest and myself teaching, as well as information from our time in Moscow. We explained that for this reason the tapes could not be destroyed, but in developing the videos to movie format they COULD be edited out. We gave our word that all identifying video or audio would be edited out in the processing.

I am sad that circumstances caused them to be made uncomfortable in any way and doubly saddened that our vist together was tainted by things I feel to be rooted in minunderstanding. However, they boys conducted themselves as Christian brothers and we were all able to shake hands and state our common faith in Jesus Christ.

thanks to all that have written to encourage and stand with us in this work. It has been a whirlwind, but full of studies and great visits. I was so upset by what happened in St Pete that I didn't even mention the great study we had back in Moscow with three Zambians that have been attending. That cheered us considerably.

I'm out of time, just about, here at the internet cafe. In the morning we board the plane for home so that we look forward to greeting loved ones. Thank you for your prayers and your fellowship. And more detailed hard copy reports will follow in a few weeks.

brotherly,
Mac

Good Morning all,
This is just a quick note of explanation. I will write more about St Pete and our return trip later. Enough for now, for us, is that we three are save and sound back in Moscow and officially counting down the time until take off, and landing at home.

To those who have been having difficulty with the blog over the past couple days, my excellent webteam, Mark Hudson and Alayne Hunt, have been monitoring the phlog and have told me that we are bing hacked. Someone has been hacking in and turning off the phlog. We hope to keep control of it for just a few more days and they will be watching closely so your patience is greatly appreciated. If you haven't been able to write, keep trying.

Long nite on the train, need a shower and to check in with folks here.

Love you and miss you all,
Mac

I thought I would drop the three of you a short message. I finally found the time to sit down and read most of the phlog. I am actually sitting in a break area at IvyTech in Indy. I am back on days so I was able to go to Men's Class this past Tuesday and Wednesday night Bible study. I have really missed those gatherings with the family. Sounds as though everything is going pretty well over there. The pics are a great addition to the page. We all miss you all and look forward to seeing you again in a few days. Hopefully you all are being a great encouragement to the Christians in Russia, I know they are an encouragement to you all.

Greetings Friends,
Sarah here.
Thanks again for all the encouragement. I am finally up to date on my uploads, but regret to inform you that I will not be posting any pictures of our St. Petersburg brothers. Because of personal, privacy, & I think cultural issues, they requested that no pictures of them be posted on the internet. Respecting their wishes, I will try to work around that.

Good Morning From St Petersburg,
Hurrah! The cold front finally arrived yesterday. It came with a shower while we were visiting the Summer Palace grounds of the Czars, but that was all right. It has finally cooled to typical Russian weather. Pleasant in August!

For those who tried to reach us yesterday and failed, the fault was our server and we apologize. The servers were offline for most of the day I've been told, but if you're reading this we are up and running again.

The study last evening with Anton and Andrey was great. After Tea we studied from 1 Peter and the fact of us "attaching" ourselves to Jesus as to a living stone so that we take upon ourselves the same characteristics as THAT living stone. Forrest tied it in with later verses illustrating the place that our actions take in bringing someone to ready acceptance of the gospel. I believe it was a helpful lesson because these young men struggle with HOW to reach out to others. After two years of working and shining as lights here they claim still not to be discouraged, but I wish that there were some team of men or devoted couples who would be taken with evangelising this European City with the simple new testament truth. 7 million people, and over 500,000 university aged students! This field is truly white unto harvest.

Vernon, and anyone else who may be interested. The laptop that would work here for Alex could be US or Russian. It doesn't matter. The prices here are pretty similar and for a laptop with the flexibility he might need, I'm guessing $1000 would do the job. I know there are $600 laptops being advertised in the US, but I also know that you get what you pay for.If anyone is replacing their laptop or would like to help get one for Alex, please be in touch.

We're going downtown today for a short while before returning and getting ready for the study tonight. This evening they will come to the hotel.Tomorrow we must leave the hotel by noon and catch the night train again to Moscow so I my not be phlogging. On monday once again we should have the easy access from the hotel internet cafe so we will be in touch then.

The weather is cool. I have a good helper (and backpack carrier) in Forrest, and Sarah is seriously taking a great visual picture of the trip in still shots and interiviews with Russians. The trip is going well I believe and one great aspect of it is the kind expressions that we read from you. Thank you.

Mac

To Sarah - your pictures are great. I too would like to know when your DVD is ready. It is always so helpful to be able to put faces and voices with individuals.

Thanks so much for all of you being willing to leave the comforts of America and travel to preach the Gospel.

May your travels be safe and prosperous,

Good Morning Brothers and Sisters,
Greetings from St Petersburg. Had a good day yesterday with Anton Kireykin. We walked around the Peter and Paul Fortress and Downtown St. Pete where the ship Aurora (fired the first shot in the Revolution) is docked. Almost walked my legs off keeping up with these Young'uns!

Met for studies last night at Antons. Andrey had a couple of good questions from 1 Timothy 3 and Luke. Spent a couple of hours there. They have asked us to study with them every night that we are here, for 2 or 3 hours, and we're looking forward to that. It seems to me to be a sign of their conviction and desire to learn that they would ask for that after working 10-12 hours during the day. I really appreciate these young men and once more I would ask that they be held up to the Lord in prayer. There have been visitors and friends come here to be with them, but they really would love for a worker to come here and labor with them. They would be great helpers. If there is anyone out there considering overseas work, this would be a rich field. The institutional church has been successful here to the tune of several hundred members. A sound congregation of kingdom work in this international city surely would be valuable for years to come as people pass through this metropolitan area.

Since our schedule here seems to be pretty simple, ie, sightseeing while the boys are at work and meeting them for study each evening, I'd also like to use this space to again, send out a call for a laptop or funds to purchase one to help A. Sereogin in Moscow in teaching and preaching. Any takers?

And while I'm on the subject, let me say that there has been some confusion between two churches of Christ in Moscow, both with a preacher named Alex. There has been confusion among some Americans, and now we have found confusion among the Russians also. One church in Moscow, with a preacher by the name of Alex (I do not know his lastname) is identified with that church "hijacking" that took place in 2000. (that report can be found elsewhere here on the EvangelismUpdate). That church has been contacted by Americans and Russians over the past two years. That church (one preacher and one family) is not interested in assembling more than twice a month, and even has the reputation among the russians as only meeting when Americans come to town. Whoever is supporting that guy needs to stop being fooled by him and stop his support! That is NOT Alex Sereogin. Alex and Natasha Sereogin work with another group of believers in S. Moscow and meet EVERY Lords day for worship. Alex Sereogin runs advertising in the local paper for Bible reading English classes (I have seen them) and has made a number of contacts this way that he is working with. I have talked with visitors who have told me they have come to services many times. Alex Sereogin is a tested and proven worker in spite of those who have slandered him in confusion, as well as purposely in the past. I hope this will help alleviate some of the confusion (and get the truth out about this counterfeit preacher).

Sorry for the long message. I still appreciate hearing your kind wishes and thoughts and prayers. I'm thinking that this phlog helps us much more than you all.

Missing brothers, sisters, and family at home.
Mac

Great Day to All,

Well I missed yesterday on our Phlog. Busy and traveling. Monday we studied with Goulia at McDonalds and had a great time. Talked mainly about the Old and New Testmemts, i.e. why there were two, why there is now one, which one do we follow, etc. Her father is muslim and her mother a Christian so she is understanably confused about it, but the amazing thing is that neither of her parents led her into their own faith. She, with a smile, says, I am not muslim nor am I a Christain. She IS a believer though and we encouraged to to keep attending the Bible studies and Worship that Alex leads and look to Natasha and Alex as friends in this new town, to her, Moscow. She is a Tartar from Kazan. You might say a prayer for this young lady.

Monday evening we met with my brother Tim and his wife Luba for dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe and some catching up. I only see him on these Moscow trips so its a treat for me. Additionally Tim was one of Sarah's big supporters in this trip so it was good for them to link up.

Tuesday we traveled to the Dacha of Alex and Natasha so Sarah could interview them for her DVD. That took most of the day but it was worth it to be able to visit with these precious Christians at the their country house. A & N don't own this home, they are just renting it while they rent their flat out to make a little extra money to complete their new flat. It was still a nice visit and more pleasant in the contry than in the hot city streets.

Tuesday nite we took the night train to St Pete. Doing this is a little inconveinent but it save a night in motel costs and a day of work. I hope no one heard about the bombing of the Moscow/St Pete train earlier in the day and got worried when I didn't hit the blog. No news is good news don't ya know. Anyway that must have caused some problems because most of the trains were running late. Although ours left on time, it arrrived in St. Pete 3 hours late. No worries. We are settled in, have contacted Anton Kireykin and are supposed to meet this evening.

This internet cafe is harder to get to and out of the way, so If I don't make it every day, don't worry. Miss everyone at home and appreciate your kind words and prayers. Forrest and I laugh at Sarah's pics just like you do. They really are a great addition. BTW, he's doing a great job helping me with questions and studies. Fills in like he's been doing it all his life. It's great to be able to travel in this way with my family. All I need is Lorn and Terri and we'd really be on a roll. Ha.

Phlog you later,
Mac

It looks like you three are keeping busy! I love that McDonalds has become study central. I have generally kept a "rule" when traveling overseas not to eat anywhere that I have at home, but I would probably have to rethink that if my breakfast was peas and sardines! It's also interesting to see that Napolean Dynamite has penetrated Russian culture, as seen in the guy's t-shirt in Gorky Park. Is that movie typical of the Russian sense of humor?

I hope everything continues to go well. We miss you here, but are glad that we can share you with the world.

Forrest, congrats on doing a great first lesson, and Sarah, we'll miss you at the party on Friday. No one else will be able to explain the selfish nature of Jupiter's gravitational pull quite like you can....

Dear Mac, Forrest and Sarah,
It has been great to read about and see your daily activities this week. The phlog is a wonderful avenue for others to have as a daily reminder to remember you and your efforts in prayer. It is also great to see the brethren there, to feel like you know them better and to hold them before the Lord in prayer as well.
Thank-you for your efforts and labor for the Lord and His kingdom.
Forrest and Sarah- I have a feeling that you are not only making your Dad very proud of you, but your Heavenly Father, as well.
I have enjoyed the week here with Lorna and precious Grace. We got to eat at the Lemon Drop-(love that onion burger); go to a few stores, but mostly Grace and I walk and talk. We like to water the garden together, and even made it around the lake once. The breeze rustling the leaves holds as much delight for her as it does me. We clean out the bird bath every day, then watch the birds come and have a great time- there were 12 in there once. Lorna and I made salsa from the vegetables in the garden. The taste of that will give you something great to anticipate coming home to. I'm sure there is much you are missing from home.
It is very peaceful here. I have enjoyed being with Lorna- true friends are the ones you can pick up where you left off without feeling like you have been away.
The brethren at the Anderson church are very friendly and loving. The services were edifying. I saw the DVD you made, Sarah, for the visitors. It was very impressive and inviting. I can certainly see that the sentiments were true.
I leave tomorrow to return to Tampa. I have missed sweet Bill, Joseph, Jeremy and even Caesar. This has been a great week here and I am so glad I came. I have been blessed. I will continue to keep each of you and the brethren there in my prayers. May God bless your efforts most abundantly.
Love, Jeanne Mae

Mac, i know Nolan missed you yesterday. no one to punch fists with :(

Sarah, we will be missing you this friday. a group of us are going to Lisa's to play games. apples to apples won't be the same w/o you!

Please tell our Christian family in Russia hello, and that they are in our prayers.

Hey guys,

It's great to keep up with you on the "phlog" and the pics are great.

Tell Sarah I would like a DVD as well. I intended to do something like that from the video I took last year but I did not get it done.

I was so glad to see Ylena as your translator again. Please send her my greetings. I am praying that with her continued exposure to the gospel the word will work on her heart.

Mac, please see if you can get current email addresses for Misha (Tula), Anton and Andre in St. Pete. I would like to be in touch with them all.

I preached last PM about "Why Go Preach the Gospel Around the World?" It was a basic lesson to encourage the brethren to keep looking/ thinking beyond ourselves and help them stay interested in the work in Russia.

Keep up the good work.

Good Morning Once More,

Just finished breakfast, hot dogs and cappacino, Yuummm.

Yesterday was busy, but a great day. Met Alex and Benjamin (a physicist) at McDonalds for 2-3 hours and studied. LLLOOOOTTT of questions from this thinker. Not sure we made headway, but maybe hit some things differently from Alex and gave him something more to consider.

Worship went well with another full house. Most of Saturdays crowd came back along with another gentleman from Zambia, William. Forrest preached and did a great job. Very well organized and to the point, with a number of scriptures explaned. He talked about our need to depend fully and only on the Word being careful of mens traditions and teaching. I think the translator did better for him than she did for me on Satuday. I led singing and served the Lord's supper. Enjoyed meeting with these brethren and encouraging the visitors to return.

About out of time here at the internet cafe so I better sign off. Expecting a study today also.

love, Mac

Hey guys! Glad you are safely in Moscow and getting acclimated.
Mac, I'm glad you are there. You are an inspiration to those of us that leave families behind to work in foreign places. Thank you for your example. Glad you were able to find some food you enjoy eating! I know what a chore that can be at times. ;-) Although, Hollie did not care much for the sardines on the buffet. She says hello, by the way.
Sarah, awesome job with the photos. Count Hollie and I in for the dvd. Being able to see what the three of you are doing helps us appreciate your work even more.
Forrest, you go man! My wife couldn't believe it was you in the photos! I guess it has been a while since we last saw you. I'm sure you did an excellent job on your preaching today. Perhaps we'll have another McMuray filling the pulpit?
Keep up the great work guys. Looking forward to reading about your labors and travels. Take care. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Good Morning Everyone,
At this time it is about 2am est. Since I'm not on Eastern time however, it's about 10 am here. Again, I've got to say that it's great to read your comments on the blog. Makes us all laugh and feel like we're not really on the other side of the globe.

What's been happening? Well, since our study Friday night was postoned we found our way to a favorite restaraunt on the South side of Moscow, the Starlight Diner. It's a 50's type styled American diner. It has the old neon lights and airstream outside and great burgers with shakes to die for. Really kind of cool here in Russia.

Yesterday Misha, Sasha, and Tulip came up from Tula so we spent the afternoon at Gorky Park strolling, catching up, and even riding some of the rides. It was great to visit with them and find that the church is doing well in Tula, especially since we didn't have time to go down there on this trip. Credit in God's grace for that good work goes in large share to Misha. Also to Josh CreeL and Leon Mauldin who have continued to make regular visits there to encourage those Christians. It's a great part of the kingdom.

Last night was the regular Saturday night class here in Moscow. It was great, with a full house of 14, including the translator, we three, Natsha's Parents, and 5 visitors who are regular attendees. I spoke from 1 Peter 4 about the suffering Christian and the fact that there is much to learn and gain in suffering that we gain no where else. We need to have good attitudes, trust God, and look for the day and time when there will be no more sorrows. Most of these in the sudience had expeienced various trials in their life so they seem to really get on board and appreciate the study.

Today we meet with Benjamin about two pm and then worship at 7, when Forrest will be speaking. I'm looking forward to that.

I think that about catches you up. My personal time clock finally cuaght up after two hours of sleep the first night, four hours the second, I got in 6.5 hours last night striaght thru. whoo hoo, feeling good enough today to keep up with a pair of twenty somethings... almost. :-)

Thanks for your prayers, appreciate your concerns.
Please excuse my typos, this blog is uncorrectable once I push the button.
Miss everyone at home and btw, Robert... Wednesday is YOUR class. I have no idea what your teaching on Wednesday. Ha. On Sunday, Vernon will be carrying on with 2 Corinthians.

thanks again,

Good Morning All,
Wow it is great to hear from everyone. We've only been here a couple days and I miss everyone at home and the comfortable routine we fall into so easily. First, where we are at present and then I'll try to answer any questions you send me. If I don't get them, ask again, I don't intend to overlook any and I appreciate your interest.

The regular routine of being in Russia and working has manifested itself. Our Study with Benjamin didn't materialize last evening as planned. It was postponed until Sunday at 2. Since the church here meets at 7pm, that should work well... if it is not postponed again. Also looking forward to meeting with a couple sisters that Alex has been studying with. Misha Lapyonko and Sasha are coming up today from Tula to visit with us. Misha is an old and great friend and preaches with the church in Tula while supporting himself working in a new car dealership. Sasha is a friend and Christian of just a couple years, but a great fellow and we look forward to seeing them and finding how the church in Tula progresses. They were doing so well last year with renting their own meeting place, renting a center for a gospel meeting and doing their own advertising. I'm anxious to see my friend and brother again today, before our Bible class at 7pm. My thanks to Sarah for really showing everyone some of the ins and outs of our trip and what we're seeing. Her interviews are proceeding well also.Thank you for your kind comments about her pics.

Lonnie: That would be great if you and your wife could plan a trip here in 2008. I'm sure she would enjoy it and you are a great encouragment brother. The brethren would be excited to see you again.

John S: Absolutely brother, I will pass your greetings to Alex. That seller of military hats has turned into a valuable worker in the kingdom with a wife who joins him in spiritual things, training his daughter regularly also to love the Lord. Finding him was finding a hidden treasure 11 or 12 years ago.

Dennis: Thanks for asking brother, about the spiritual temperature. Many may not know that we DO NOT have the ability to work anymore as we once did. Our window of freedom was only open for 6 to 8 years, and has been shutting down ever since. It is now illegal for foreign nationals to come and preach publicly in Russia. We can NOT talk or invite publicly, nor can we hand out materials publicly, nor can we preach or advertise publicly. All the work now has to be done under the radar, so to speak. Invitations are only by the Russians. Teaching is only done in private flats. and no Advertising can be done by us. The Russians have to do it all with the permission of the authorities. That is why being here seems such a trial to American patience.
:-) We want to just go DO SOMETHING and it is no longer possible. We have to wait, be patient, be flexible, and be ready to just step in whenever we can.
This has been mostly the doing of President Putin. He continues to guide Russia back to the old ways. There have been many Americans here for business reasons, just like many religions are now here, so they have lost their excitement about Americans, but I get the impression that the man on the street still loves the smiling, easy going Americans. They are puzzled by the media coverage of George Bush and what he appears to be doing, but then again, arent we all? They know that not everything they hear can be believed. The work is harder and the soil is not as accepting, but doesn't that just mean we have to trust God more and farm with more endeavor?

I'm out of time, so I'm signing off. Thank you again for your prayers and concern.
Mac

Mac,
I some questions for you. We hear about the changes under Putin. Is there a difference in the ability to preach in Russia now as compared to in the mid 1990's? The economy there; does it appear to be getting better? That is can you see more modern stores, cars, groceries, etc? Finally, are the people there still as interestedin Americans as they were in earlier trips?
Take care and hope all goes well.

Good Afternoon All,
Well we've been busy so far today. Started out with a great breakfast however. Chrck out Sarah's pics of the buffet, sardines and Peas, one of my personal favorites. I had the giant hot dog and crab cakes myself.

We met with Alex and Natasha last evening for a visit and tea. Talked about Presidnet Putin, hades, George Bush, Bible studies, and church growth... not necessarily in that order. Measurable growth is slow here but those who read Alex's reports know that one was recently baptized and that has been an encouragement. That kind of balaces the discouragemnt of Anatoly the scientist engineer leaving soon for Burma. They try to take it all in stride and press on. Alex tells me he is studying with a couple of sisters that he met when advertising his English club. They meet weekly.

We spent most of the day going across town by metro and securing round trip tickets to St Petersburg for the second leg of this trip. What a nightmare. ha. Good into for Forrest into Moscow travel. We're presently waiting on a call to confirm the time of a Bible study this evening with a prospect that Alex has been working with.

Replying to Shannon, Alex's laptop has bitten the proverbial dust brother. He could get it repaired, but the estimate is about 70% the cost of a new one.He was told the problem is that it is just too OLD. I told him I'd see if anyone out there would like to take a tax deduction and send your laptop to this preacher? Someone who is thinking of a replacement might really help out this way. Bob Buchanon is coming in October and I'm sure he'd play delivery man. If you can help Alex with this teachin tool that he uses for powerpoint illustration as well as for assisting in Bible studies, please email me at mcmurray@SpiritBuilding.com. Otherwise perhaps we car raise enough funds to replace this for him?

Note for all, I understand that my webguy is going to turn this phlog upside down so that you don't have to scroll down each time further and further. He's going to post the latest at the top. Thanks Mark.

Also thank you for the kind words, thoughts, and prayers. You too Nathan. It's great to hear from you. Sarahs also glad to hear that some are interested in purchasing her DVD movie of the trip. I think that it's only going to run about $20, but if it's anything like the one she did to intro the Anderson church of Christ, it's really goint to be cool. She's working on it everyday while Forrest and I discuss our lessons and what to teach while we're here.

It's got to be near 88 degrees here (and no ac in the room) so I'm gong to stop here and go get some water. I'll be back.

I have been in touch with Alex via email. Mac, please encourage Alex to stay in touch (via an internet cafe if nothing else). Also, please see if you can find out about his computer problems and the needs of another computer or ...??? I told Alex that we would be willing to help out with some of that expense.
I am so glad Forest and Sarah got to go with you. Maybe one day I will take a crew of 4 kids (I might even get Dana to go back that way).

Carl McMurray
August 9th 2007 5:10am PDT
Good Afternoon,
It's 4 pm here in Moscow and we are finally on the ground. Getting here was a wonderful experience. Because of weather delays in NY, Forrest's plane was delyaed and Sarah and I also were delayed for two hrs. We arrived in NY the same time asa out flight was leaving. Oops. Delta shifted us over onto Aeroflot and se scrambled to get there just in time to be told that my son was on the plane, but the counter was closed and we two would not be allowed on. Things got heated but we consented to doing a few laps around the airport for the amusement of the Aeroflot ticket gals. We ran to Air France to contact the Delta agent (go figure!) then ran back with actual tickets this time instead of the fakes that Delta had already given us. They skipped the bag check and hustled us through security to the warm and cheery Russian flight attendants. A fun time was had by all, I'm sure.

Alex Sereogin was supposed to meet us at the airport and tried for several hours. When Delta finally broke down and told him that we were not on the flight and had probably been shuffled over to Aeroflot, Alex's response was that, "no way. Mac won't fly Aeroflot!" Soooo, we made our way to the hotel to find that rates have doubled since last year. We were still having fun!

We'll meet up with a greatly relieved Alex now in a couple hours after we get a bite to eat. I'll be checking back here. Be sure to check out Sarahs' pics of this adventure and thanks for all the prayers and kind words, here on the phlog and in my personal email.

Hello Friends,
This is Sarah:
crooked
As dad mentioned I'll be playing an unusual role on this trip, but I hope a valuable one.
Individual donors have helped to finance me in documenting this work. I plan to release the documentary in stages. If all goes well, the first stage will be pictures posted with the blog entries. The second will be a slide show of images. The third will be a short (under 5 minutes) video "trailer" for the trip. All of these things will be provided free of charge for anyone wishing to promote missionary work.
Additionally, I hope to produce an hour long dvd documentary. Of course the individuals who helped me make the trip will receive a complimentary copy. Anyone else interested will be able to purchase one. Sales will be used to fund deficits in financing this trip, and to accumulate capital for future trips. I hope to make bringing you the experience of overseas evangelism an ongoing thing.

Carl McMurray
July 28th 2007 12:25pm PDT
Good Afternoon,
At this writing is Saturday, July 28, and we are about ten days out from our trip to Moscow and St Petersburg, Russia. Reservations are made, tickets are in place, and last minute chores are being listed and checked off the list. Those of you that know me know that this trip (#11 or 12, I forget) is an unusual trip for me. My son, Forrest, will be accompanying me as a teacher and my daughter Sarah, will be accompanying us both as photographer and vidiographer. Let me introduce them to you.

Forrrest regularly teaches Bible class and does short invitations at the Woodland Hill congregation in Nashville, TN where he and his wife Terri attend. I believe that this will be his first effort at preaching however, so I'm not sure who's more excited, him or his dad. This will be his first trip to Russia.

This will be Sarah's second trip. She graduated last term from Western Ky University with a double major in Physics and Photo Journalism. She actually has paid for some school and equpment costs with the photo work she has done for the Physics Dept., weddings, and publicity shots for actors/actresses. She intends to interview some of the Russian brethren and develop a more indepth visual report than we have usually done with our cameras and powerpoint slides. She hopes to provide a DVD movie of the trip for all our supporters, and then to sell the DVD to churches/individuals who may be interested in overseas work to help cover some of her expenses in this trip. And yes, in case you missed it, that WAS a shameless plug for anyone interested to let her know you'd be interested in a copy. Her first trip was during a church planting in Kaluga during which she helped put up posters and established friendships with our translators.

Needless to say, I'm glad to have both my children along on this trip and see them so interested in this aspect of kingdom work. They have been patient with me for over ten years as I made yearly trips and I'm happy to have them as partners this time. Sarah says she will be posting photos to the blog this year to show you what's happening over here as we talk about it. For that reason, I think she wants to call this a "phlog."

So, let us know if you're reading, comments are welcome, and we'll be phlogging you... in a nice way of course.

Mac
